Do first floor apartments in Stackwyck have living room windows? It doesnt look like it from the drawings. It loiks like each bedroom has a window, but not the living rooms.
I think you are correct, the first floor living rooms do not have windows. I think that is because of the hill and how they are not fully above ground.
I’m an incoming transfer student for next year (rising sophomore). I’m going to have to live on campus, so I’m curious as to which residence halls are available for transfer students to live in and if there’s anything that resembles apartment living.
Apartment living can be found in Stacwyck, Bryckwyck, RAHPS A or B and Polytechnic. We do not specifically have a dorm for transfer students.
Which Hall is the one with triples?
Barton Hall is all triples. BARH sometimes has forced triples as well.
Does Warren have the same bookshelf storage as the dividing wall for the room like Davison or Nugget or is it a different kind of wall?
The wall is different. For some, the closet and dresser are built in like in like the freshman five. Other parts show a cork board. Feel free to look at the pictures here.
BARH seems pretty separated from the rest of the campus. Do a lot of BARH residents find that the distance is an issue, or is it not as big a deal as it seems? Thanks
It depends on who you ask. I know people that don’t mind the extra 3-5 minute walk, and I know people that find it annoying and wish they didn’t live there. In general, I would say it isn’t a big deal.
At RPI, are there specific residence halls for females only or are all halls co-ed only? Are there specific floors for females only? Asking as an incoming freshman- Thank you!
All of the residence halls are co-ed. If the halls are floor bathrooms, one wing will be for females and one for males. If the halls are suite bathrooms, the two rooms sharing the bathroom will be the same gender, but across the hall may be a different gender.
In Rahps A does the maintenance clean the bathroom/ provide toilet paper? And does the kitchen come with a microwave? Thank you
RAHPs A no microwave is provided. Maintenance does not clean your bathroom or provide toilet paper.
In Quad singles (specifically Caldwell), is there only one closet? And does it come with a dresser (the one with three drawers)?
Each Quad room is slightly different but with a single room you only have one closet typically. Each room consists of a closet/wardrobe, bed, desk and dresser.
Are there laundry facilities in Stacwyck, specifically Thompson?
Yes on the first floor.
Does each room in Blitman have a bathroom or are they suite bathrooms shared between 2 rooms?
Each room in Blitman has a bathroom.
Are there washers and dryers at RAHP A? Or are they at outside of building? If so, is it far away?
There are laundry facilities for RAHPs, but they are not in your actual apartment. Depending on where your apartment is located, you may have to walk further than others.
How are lottery numbers assigned for housing applications?
Randomly within each class year.
Does Blitman have singles? How hard is it to get blitman’s single as a rising sophomore?
Blitman is mainly composed of doubles.
Which of the second year dorms has the reputation of being the best dorm? I understand that it depends on the person, but is there often a few general dorms that are preferred over others?
Again, there is no best dorm. Some students prefer apartment style living their sophomore year so RAHPs and Stacwyck are appealing.
Will North and E-complex be open for sophomores next year (2017-18)?
North is for freshmen. E-complex is for upperclassmen.
Can sharp roommates be both guys and girls? Its suite style so I don’t see why they wouldn’t allow it but I don’t know.
In previous years Sharp has not been allowed to be gender neutral, but the locations change each year. In order to apply for gender neutral you must have a one-on-one meeting with Assistant Dean, Brooke Surprenant, who will also be able to answer your previous question.
About how much wall space do you have? Can you hang things such as pictures, posters, flags, etc. on them?
The specific amount of wall space differs per room and how you set up your furniture. You can cover 10% of your wall with items while still passing fire and safety inspection. That being said no tapestries, flags or anything of that nature will pass fire and safety inspection.
Are there singles in Warren Hall, if that is listed as a pricing option? (I saw in a previous post there are/were not.) Is there a way to gain special accomodations for a single room if you have a documented disability?
I have confirmed with a Warren Hall RA and this was their response:
All rooms in Warren are doubles with a private bath (except for the RA rooms which are just the RA in the double alone). Handicap rooms are also singles and can be requested. Contact ResLife for more information about special accommodations for disabilities.
When will the 2017-2018 Housing Application be available?
As stated on our homepage, we are not affiliate with Res Life. For this reason we do not know when the application will be available, but typically it is released at the beginning of the Spring semester.
Is there a way to get lower lottery number? Such as by signing up early or doing something early? Or it’s just pure luck? And also during room selection event, can you also “request” for someone to be in the same dorm/section or floor, if the number of people is odd. So that we can 1 suite and 1 single on the same dorm section/floor.
There is no way to get a lower lottery number.
You can request someone to be in the same suite/apartment as you, but not on the same floor. They can select the same floor as you but there is no way to request this.

E-Complex does have a laundry room in its basement. Like all laundry on campus, it is free for student use.
Since Blittman has a bathroom in each room, who will clean it? What about the bathroom tissue, are they provided?
There is a housekeeping service that cleans your bathroom once a week. They do provide toilet paper, but it is very thin so some students still buy their own.
Are the floors in BARH carpeted or tiled?

Warren – do we ourselves have to clean the bathroom my roommate and I share or does it get cleaned by a custodian?
Suite bathrooms are cleaned once a week by the custodial staff.
What size are the beds in polytech?
Full size beds are provided in Polytech.

Yes Quad has AC.
Are the dorm rooms typically clean when you first move in? Or do you have to clean it yourself?
The dorms are cleaned prior to your arrival but it is recommend you do some light cleaning before moving in.
What’s the laundry situation for RAHP B?
There is laundry attached to one of the buildings in RAHPs B

Warren does not have AC. Cable hookups are in each room as well as the lounge.
I was not assigned a roommate and I live in Warren. Since there is only one person in the room, would there still be a privacy wall and two sets of furniture in the room?
Yes there will still be a privacy wall even if you are the only person in the room, since it was originally meant for 2 people. Thank you for clarifying your question!
If one person uses a room in Warren, since it is a double, would it still have the privacy wall and two beds?
I am a little confused by the question and have two answers depending on what you were asking:
- You are the only person assigned to your room – it is still a double room. RPI does not change the set up of the room depending on number of people in it.
- You believe you have a single room – there are currently no single rooms in Warren. Please see point above because you probably were just not assigned another roommate.

I’m living in Church V next semester in a double and I can’t find ANYTHING on what it’s going to look like in the room, do you have any pictures that would be close to it? I’ve been through all the other QUAD pictures but I know Church I, II, and III are different from Church IV, V, and VI.

Do the BARH triples have individual closets for each student?
Yes BARH triples have wardrobes for each student.
Can you put curtains up in bedrooms in stacwyck?
Curtains would be against fire code. In theory you are able to put them up and take them down before inspections, but it is not recommended.
Do the stacwyck kitchens come with any pots/pans/kitchen supplies?
No at this time nothing is included in a Stacwyck kitchen except your fridge, table and 4 chairs.
Is it possible to get a bed unlofted if it is already lofted when I get there? Specifically in Quad
You are able to unloft a bed and just have to keep the materials in your room until the end of the year.
Are hot/cold water dispensers allowed in dorm rooms? (Enones with the 5-gal bottles)

Is it bad to have a single as a freshman. I requested duble but was given a single in Nugent.
It is not bad to have a single as a freshman, some people actually prefer it. If you are worried about the social aspect you might just have to make more of an effort to meet people.

Yes, typically one of the beds is lofted/bunked.
Any suggestions regarding dorm theft ? 1) Is there a locking drawer in your desk ? 2) I see dormco sells safes that can secure by cable to furniture. Is this useful and to what would it secure ?
There is no locking drawer in your desk at this time. The secure cable you are most likely refusing to is for your laptop that would secure to a desk for example. That way if anyone were to try and steal your laptop they would have to bring the table as well. Personally I did not feel the need for this cable and had no issue with security, but it should be noted I always locked my door to my room.
What are the approximate dimensions of Blitman Rooms? I know they’re all around 250 sq ft but is there somewhere where we can find the actual ftxft dimensions?
At this time we do not know of a place where you can find the dimensions. We also do not have those numbers unless people provide them to us. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.
Will we be able to sneak a peek of our assigned dorm at SO?
Normally you stay in Barton and Davison during SO because they are air conditioned. If you are living in either of these dorms during the year you can preview your room, but other than that you are unable to see your assigned dorm room.

So my room will officially be in the quad, White IV. I like cooking, so I looked at the floor plan so that I could find the kitchen, but it didn’t seem to exist on there. Is there not actually a kitchen located on the first floor as RPI’s website says there should be, or am I just confused? Also, what is the laundry situation? Thanks!
I would just look at the floor plans listed on RPI’s website http://reslife.rpi.edu/update.do?artcenterkey=72. They will have the most information. I should be noted that some lounges may included kitchens.
All laundry for Quad is in the archway. There are about 20 dryers and washers there.
